BIOGRAPHY:
Talera was born in the Two Rivers but grew up in Baerlon, her father and two older brothers soldiers in the Andoran army and her mother having her own tailoring business.
Before his death her father had tried to teach his older children the art of living off the forest, just in case they found themselves alone and lost in the woods. He also taught them how to ride a horse. Talera loves horses, and very soon became a proficient rider.
Trollocs killed her father and older brother Rowan when she was 15 years old. Her brother Caelan lost an arm during that attack and was discharged from the army.
Talera's mother was paid a substantial amount of money by the Andoran crown for losing her husband and first-born in royal service, and because of this payout, many of the men of Baerlon began to press suit on Talera's mother, hoping to gain her consent for a wedding so they could make off with her money. Caelan didn't take this too well, and he decided there was a need for his family to be under armed guard at all times. Baerlon was a fairly rough place, being full of miners and the likes. But as he had only one arm, he doubted his own ability to defend his family. So he began to teach Talera in the use of knife and bow. She learnt quickly, despite the fact that he could demonstrate the shooting of the bow for her.
He also started to teach her how to use a sword, first using a long stick as a practice sword. She showed absolutely no talent for this at all, but she surprised him one day by using the practice sword as a staff, and besting him in less than a minute. From this point onwards he began training her in the finer points of using this weapon. Over the course of the next six years Talera's skill with the staff increased, and she had ambitions of joining the army herself.
Her mother had other ideas. She wanted Talera to carry on the Tailor business after she was gone, and Talera was forced to spend long hours working for her mother. Not that it was unpleasant...she did like the work, and it meant that someone trained to fight was at her mother's side at all times. The suitors were becoming more insistent, and had even tried to threaten Talera to gain her mother’s attention. They soon learned the futility of this...Talera was more dangerous than they thought.
Eventually the desire to join the army became too great for her, so she left Baerlon, seeking to join the Royal army of Andor. Her mother still had Caelan and their sisters to look after her and the shop, but Talera always felt sad for having left them. She travelled all the way to Andor, and there she presented herself to the guard-captain of the Andoran army. She was laughed out of the city by men who believed that since she was a woman, she didn't have what it takes to be a soldier. This rankled her inside, but she admitted defeat and headed for home, hoping her mother wouldn't be too mad.
She had stopped in Four Kings on the way home, and was staying in one of the many local taverns there, drinking herself into a stupor. She found herself talking to a black-clad man who told her that there was one army she could join which accepted women among the ranks. He told her of a valley in the mountains of mist, where there were three towers full of channelers, and he told her that they train soldiers there of both sexes. The more he told her of this place, which he called 'The Towers', the more interested she became. She spent that night thinking on what she had learned, missing sleep in the meantime. The next morning she had decided she would seek out these Towers.
On a short stay in Caemlyn she found an almost starving puppy and fed him her ration for the day. Since then ‘Fionn’ is following her wherever she goes.
