One's first visit to a Wheel of Time messageboard can be quite confusing. Posters who have been around the boards often use numerous abbreviations in each post. New persons can frequently become lost in trying to understand all the combinations let loose amidst the ramblings of older posters.

For that reason we decided it would be a good idea to have a Wheel of Time Messageboard Primer. The list below consists of the most common Wheel of Time abbreviations.

Various messageboards and various posters use different capitalizations. We have used the capitalizations that we often use at messageboards, but you will see them in various forms, as well as combinations.


AoL = No, not America Online, but the Age of Legends
AS = Aes Sedai
BF = Balefire
BT = Black Tower
BWB = Big White Book (The World of Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and Teresa Patterson)
CoS = Crown of Swords, the (Book 7 of the Wheel of Time Series)
CoT = Crossroads of Twilight, the (Book 10 of the Wheel of Time Series)
DR = Dragon Reborn
DF = Darkfriend
DO = Dark One
EoTW = Eye of the World (Book 1 of the Wheel of Time)
'finns = The collective term for the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn.
finnland = Not Suomi, but the land of the Aelfinn and the Eelfinn.
FoH = Fires of Heaven, then (Book 5 of the Wheel of Time Series)
GH = Great Hunt, the (Book 2 of the Wheel of Time Series)
GlotD = Great Lord of the Dark
LoC = Lord of Chaos (Book 6 of the Wheel of Time Series)
LTT = Lews Therin Telamon
NS = "New Spring" (Short story from Legends by Robert Silverberg (Editor)
OB = Old Blood
OT = Old Tongue
OP = One Power

Randland = The Land or the western part of the main continent
RJ = Robert Jordan
SAS = Salidar Aes Sedai (Rebel Aes Sedai)
SH = Shaidar Haran
SL = Shadar Logoth
Sniffers = Egwene, Elayne, Nynaeve (Becuase they frequently sniff)
SR = Shadow Rising, the (Book 4 of the Wheel of Time Series)

TP = True Power
