Tip: Summer Medicine Chest
When enjoying the outdoors this season, be prepared to protect yourself against common summer ailments. I have found the following to be effective in preventing and treating a variety of summer culprits:
a.. Echinacea: Take at the first sign of a summer flu or cold.
a.. Ginger: This may prevent motion sickness or other nausea.
a.. Stinging Nettles: By far the best remedy I know for hay fever.
a.. Arnica: The tincture of this plant relieves pain and tenderness of sprains and sore muscles.
a.. Bromelain: Promotes the healing of soft-tissue injuries, such as sprains and bruises.
a.. B-complex vitamins: B-100 tablets or capsules can help ward off mosquitoes.
a.. Geraniol: Products made with this oil are another effective way to protect yourself from mosquitoes.
a.. Tecnu: Effective at preventing rashes from poison oak, ivy, and sumac.
a.. Aloe Vera: For sunburn, thermal burns and any areas of skin irritation or inflammation.
You can find out more about each of these herbal remedies on the site. Finally, don't forget sun protection (with an SPF of at least 15), remember to drink plenty of water, and have fun!
